Coast Guard rescues 3 off grounded vessel

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two men and one woman from a grounded vessel in the Mississippi Sound, 30-miles south of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Saturday evening, Dec. 6, 2008.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a VHF radio call from the boaters aboard the 22-foot pleasure craft reporting they had ran aground and were stranded in shallow water.

Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew to assist. The aircrew successfully hoisted Bryan Anderson and Mitchell Daley of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Angie Taylor of Petal, Miss., and then safely transported them to Stennis International Airport where they were met by a friend.

The rescue serves as a reminder of the importance for mariners to maintain a working VHF radio.
