Coast Guard rescues 3 near Venice, La.

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued three men from an oil rig approximately 25-miles south of Venice, La., Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the wife of one of the stranded men at approximately 10 a.m. to report her husband and two others were stranded on an unmanned oil platform after their fishing vessel began to take on water.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew to rescue the stranded mariners. The helicopter arrived on scene and transported them safely to a marina in Venice.
