SEA BRIGHT, N.J. – The Coast Guard rescued three people who were aboard a 17-foot boat taking on water Sunday two miles off the coast of Sea Bright.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10:47 a.m. from a good Samaritan reporting a boat with three people aboard was taking on water.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan, N.J., arrived on scene and transferred all three people aboard their boat. The boat crew transferred a pump aboard the 17-foot boat and dewatered it.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, N.J., arrived on scene and transferred the three people to their boat and took the boat in tow to the nearest safe haven.
“They did not have a radio onboard their boat.” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel Wishnoff, a crewmember from Coast Guard Station Manasquan. “We urge all mariners to purchase a VHF marine radio and keep it onboard their boat at all times so they can call for help when they need to.”
