CLEVELAND—A rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Michigan City, Ind., rescued three men in Lake Michigan near Michigan City, Friday evening.
Two of the men were wearing life jackets; one was not. The men’s names and ages are not being released.
The communications watchstander at Station Michigan City received notification from a good Samaritan via VHF-FM radio, channel 16, of three people in the water after their catamaran capsized at about 4:15 p.m. The boatcrew immediately launched aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small and recovered all three individuals. They were transferred to shore with no injuries.
Attempts to right the catamaran were unsuccessful and a local salvage company has been contacted to remove the vessel.
The Coast Guard encourages all mariners to wear life jackets at all times when on the water, and to carry a communications device, such as a marine-band radio, while boating.
