Coast Guard rescues 3 near Michigan City, Ind.

9th Coast Guard District NewsCLEVELAND—A rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Michigan City, Ind., rescued three men in Lake Michigan near Michigan City, Friday evening.

Two of the men were wearing life jackets; one was not. The men’s names and ages are not being released.

The communications watchstander at Station Michigan City received notification from a good Samaritan via VHF-FM radio, channel 16, of three people in the water after their catamaran capsized at about 4:15 p.m. The boatcrew immediately launched aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small and recovered all three individuals. They were transferred to shore with no injuries.

Attempts to right the catamaran were unsuccessful and a local salvage company has been contacted to remove the vessel.

The Coast Guard encourages all mariners to wear life jackets at all times when on the water, and to carry a communications device, such as a marine-band radio, while boating.
