Coast Guard rescues 3 in Indian River Inlet

INDIAN RIVER, Del. – The Coast Guard rescued three people today aboard a 20-foot boat that became disabled 11 miles east of the Indian River Inlet.

The Coast Guard received a mayday call at 7:21 a.m. from Michael Smeyda, who reported his boat’s engine was disabled and needed assistance.

Due to worsening weather at the scene, a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Indian River arrived on scene and towed the boat and its crew to Indian River Marina in Indian River.

All three people were in good condition.
