Coast Guard rescues 3 from sinking vessel

65 New OrleansNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued three people from a sinking vessel near Dulac, Saturday, October 8, 2016.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 9:42 p.m. of a vessel that was taking on water near Terrebonne Bay.

The vessel’s pump was reportedly not keeping up with the flooding and the water was reported as 3-feet deep.

Sector New Orleans watchstanders directed the launch of a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office launched a marine unit.

The helicopter arrived on scene at 10:48 p.m., hoisted the three people and transported them to Air Station New Orleans with no medical concerns.
