Coast Guard rescues 3 from sinking sailboat

EASTERN SHORE, Md. – The Coast Guard rescued three people today after the 42-foot sailboat they were on ran aground a half mile off the coast of Assateague Island, Md.

Rescued were Larry Michaels, George Grabowski and Joseph Tosta.

The Coast Guard received a radio call at 1:09 a.m. from Larry Michaels, who reported his sailboat had ran aground on a sandbar and was taking on water.

A helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City arrived on scene and hoisted the three survivors.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew transported all three individuals to Ocean City Municipal Airport, Md.
