Coast Guard rescues 3 from overturned boat near Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coast Guard rescued three people and two dogs from an overturned boat a half mile off of North Myrtle Beach this afternoon.

Denice Field, 48, of Conway, S.C., James Manning, 51, of Conway, S.C., and Marsha Beatty, 48, of North Myrtle Beach, were recovered by a Coast Guard small boat rescue crew from Station Georgetown after they placed a cellular phone to emergency dispatchers. A helicopter flight crew from Air Facility Charleston was also launched to aid in the search.

The three departed from Hog Inlet, S.C., before their 18-foot aluminum hull boat overturned.

Boaters should take precautions prior to going on the water this time of year. “Although air temperatures are in 70’s, boaters must be cognizant that the water temperature is in the 50’s,” said Brian Hampton, a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
