Coast Guard rescues 3 from boat aground in Delaware Bay

5th Coast Guard District News
CAPE MAY, N.J. — The Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday from a 35-foot boat in Delaware Bay.

A boater contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia on VHF marine radio at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday reporting the distress. The boater reported three people were aboard a boat that was grounded on a shoal one mile west of Cross Ledge Light. The person also stated the boat’s hull was damaged, and the boat was taking on water.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City and three local fire rescue crews responded to assist the boaters.

Due to the shallow water, the helicopter crew hoisted all three people and took them to the Cape May Airport.

No injuries were reported.
