CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday after their 25-foot boat capsized in Clearwater Pass.
Rescued were Zephyr Humphries, James Hutton and Leanne Hutton.
At 3:30 p.m. Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a call from good Samaritan reporting there was a capsized boat in the vicinity of Clearwater Pass with an unknown amount of people in the water.
A Coast Guard Station Sand Key 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew was launched and located three people in the water wearing life jackets. The crew recovered all three people and transported them back to Station Sand Key.
“Once they knew the boat was going to sink, the mariners gathered their possessions and tightened their lifejackets,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Thomas Mann, the coxswain of the response boat. “As they entered the water, they stayed together and our boatcrew was able to locate them immediately and pull them to safety.”
Florida Fish and Wildlife and Clearwater Fire and Rescue also responded.
No injuries were reported.
