OGEECHEE RIVER, Ga. – A Coast Guard crew rescued three mariners Monday after becoming stranded near Ogeechee River.
The mariners’ 15-foot boat became grounded at approximately 1 a.m.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders received notification from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources that a family became stuck after trying to take a shortcut. The DNR boat was unable to reach the family, one who was experiencing back pain. Watchstanders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah at 6:15 a.m. Rescue crews hoisted the family and transferred them to emergency medical services at the air station.
The family waited to call for help to see if they could dislodge the boat themselves.
