NEW YORK – The Coast Guard and several local agencies rescued 25 people after a vessel capsized in the vicinity of Oyster Bay in Long Island Sound, N.Y., at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a report from a Good Samaritan reporting that a 36-foot Silverton had capsized with approximately 25 plus people aboard in Oyster Bay. Two 25-foot rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Eaton’s Neck, along with rescue teams from Nassau County Police Department, Oyster Bay Constable, Tow Boat US, and several local fire departments rescued the 25 people from the capsized vessel.
The 25 rescued people were transported to a safe location. Nassau County Police Department recovered two people deceased.
