SAN FRANCISCO – The 22 passengers and crew aboard the Neptune, a 45-foot vessel, are ok after the boat struck a shoal near the north side of Alcatraz Island and started taking on water last night.
At 8:42 the Coast Guard received a report that the Neptune had struck an object and had a one-foot gash in the boat.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, the Coast Guard Cutter Tern, and Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco responded to the call. Additionally, the San Francisco Police Department and Fire boats, Rescue 1 and Phoenix, also responded. All of the passengers were transferred to the rescue boats and taken to Pier 39.
Vessel assist towed the damage boat to Sausalito Boat Works for repair. There are no reports of pollution or injuries at this time. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
