Coast Guard rescues 2 stranded hikers near Cape Arago, Ore.

WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard Air Station North Bend MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted two hikers stranded south of Cape Arago, Ore., Sunday.

The Dolphin crew arrived on scene, hoisted the two hikers and safely brought them back to Air Station North Bend. The hikers were met at the air station by the local police department for further transport back to their vehicles.

Coast Guard Sector North Bend watchstanders received the report via the Coos County Police department reporting that the two hikers had become lost, exhausted and then called 911.

“This case illustrates the importance of carrying some form of communication equipment, whether it is a personal cell phone or VHF radio,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Frey, an operations specialist at Sector North Bend. “Without the ability to call emergency responders, these hikers may have found themselves in a dire situation.”

The hikers were reported to be in good condition.
