Coast Guard rescues 2, searches for 1 in Sabine Lake

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued two men and is searching for a third in Sabine Lake near Port Arthur, Texas today.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Sabine received a call for assistance from the Port Arthur Police Department at 4:45 p.m. The police department had received a call from a boater stating that his boat was sinking in Sabine Lake near Pleasure Island with three men on board. The Coast Guard was unable to establish communication with the sinking boat.

Coast Guard Station Sabine dispatched a rescue boat crew to assist. When the rescue boat crew arrived on scene, they rescued two men near their overturned boat, but could not find the third man. The rescue boat crew transported the two men to the Pleasure Island Marina where they were transferred to waiting EMS.

The rescue boat crew then returned to start searching for the third man. A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston, the Port Arthur police and fire departments, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife are also searching.
