Coast Guard rescues 2 people treading water off Cape May, NJ

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard rescued two people treading water near Cape May Friday after the sailboat they were on capsized.

The two people, a 50-year-old man and his 21-year-old daughter, were boating with one other man on a catamaran when it capsized.

The third individual managed to right the catamaran, lost sight of his two companions, then beached the catamaran.

A Coast Guard Station Cape May 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boat crew was launched to search for the two missing boaters.

Two of the boat crewmen witnessed what appeared to be people in the water near the jetties off Cape May. A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was also searching the area and confirmed the boat crew’s sighting.

The Station Cape May boat crew recovered the two individuals and transferred them ashore to awaiting EMTs.
