Coast Guard rescues 2 off jetty near Cape Fear, NC

29 Cape DissapointmentOAK ISLAND, N.C. — The Coast Guard rescued a man and woman Friday south of Fort Fisher Ferry Terminal near Cape Fear.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Oak Island received a report at 3:45 p.m. the two were stranded on a jetty.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Oak Island launched, arrived on scene at 4:15 p.m. and rescued the two individuals. The boat crew dropped off the man and woman at the Fort Fisher Ferry Terminal at 4:30 p.m.

The woman suffered minor cuts on her feet but declined medical services, and the man was in good condition.

“Thankfully we received the call in time to remove the two people from the jetty,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Hayden O’Neil, the coxswain from Station Oak Island who responded to the case. “With the tide coming in and the temperature falling, we were glad to get them back safely to shore.”
