PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard rescued two people from the water off the coast of Belmar, New Jersey, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay were notified at about 5:50 p.m. from Belmar Water Rescue that two swimmers were in distress off 4th Avenue.

Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and dispatched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Shark River to assist.

Two lifeguards and an off-duty police officer also swam out to assist the swimmers in distress.

Once on scene, the boat crew recovered all five people from the water and transported them to Station Shark River where local EMS was waiting.
