Coast Guard rescues 2 near Wildwood, N.J.

WILDWOOD, N.J.-The Coast Guard rescued two people Sunday when the personal watercraft they were aboard became aground in a marsh Sunday near west Wildwood.

The Coast Guard received a call at 4:18 p.m. from a member of the New Jersey State Police reporting a personal watercraft is grounded and the people could not get out to walk because they will sink in the mud. The New Jersey State Police arrived on scene but due to the shallow water, no boats could get into the area to assist.

A rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and hoisted the two people aboard their helicopter.

A crew from Sea Tow is planning to recover the personal watercraft when the tide rises.

The personal watercraft is not a hazard to navigation.
