The Coast Guard rescued two people after they ran aground near Thorofare Island, Md., in the Chesapeake Bay Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.
Rescued were Paul Youngk and Rob Ward.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a distress call via marine-band radio from the operator of the Mamie, a 43-foot sailboat, requesting removal from their boat after running aground at about 6:07 p.m.
At 6:55 p.m., a 41-foot utility boat crew from Coast Guard Station Crisfield, Md., arrived on scene and removed the two people from their boat.
The boat will remain anchored overnight and will be retrieved in the morning.
The Coast Guard urges mariners to outfit their boat with a marine-band radio. Marine-band radios are the most reliable way to communicate and could help provide valuable information to search and rescue personnel in the event of an emergency while on the water.
