Coast Guard rescues 2 men after personal watercrafts capsize in Cuyahoga River

9th Coast Guard District NewsCLEVELAND – A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor rescued two people after their personal watercraft capsized in the Cuyahoga River at approximately 12 a.m. July 4.

A Coast Guard boatcrew immediately launched in a 25-foot Response Boat-Small after receiving a report of the incident from a passing mariner who notified the Coast Guard via VHF-FM marine radio channel 16.

When the Coast Guardsmen arrived on scene, they found two men in the water next to their personal watercrafts. One was wearing a life jacket and the other was not.

Ohio law requires that all people aboard personal watercraft wear life jackets at all times. It can be extremely difficult to locate and don a life jacket the moment an accident occurs.

The boatcrew brought both men aboard the response boat and then took them and their watercrafts to Channel Park Marina in Cleveland, Ohio.

There were no reported injuries.
