Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City helicopter crew medevaced one man and assisted one woman after their personal watercraft ran aground approximately three miles off Atlantic City Wednesday.

The Coast Guard received notification of the incident from the Brigantine Police Department after the woman involved called 911 on her cell phone.

The man was medevaced to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. The helicopter crew’s rescue swimmer assisted the woman to a nearby small boat from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, which was unable to get too close due to shallow water depth.

“We received solid information from our local law enforcement partners on where the incident occurred,” said Lt. Jay Kircher, the co-pilot for the search and rescue mission. “Once on scene, we witnessed a man laying on his back accompanied by a woman waving for help. We lowered our rescue swimmer to the sandbar to assess the situation, and we were able to quickly transport the man to the hospital for medical attention and assist the woman in getting ashore. It was a good feeling to help both people get the help they needed utilizing multiple Coast Guard units and our partner agencies.”
