Coast Guard rescues 2 from sinking fishing boat

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen when their 41-foot fishing vessel starting taking on water in the vicinity of South Pass, La. Tuesday.

The Coast Guard received the initial report of distress at approximately 10:30 p.m. from the captain the fishing vessel Massa P. The captain reported that they were taking on water and required assistance.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans diverted Coast Guard Cutter Pompano to assist. Cutter Pompano launched its small boat and crew, which safely retrieved the two fishermen from the sinking vessel.

The two men were then transported via small boat to Coast Guard Station Venice.

No injuries were reported.
