SAN DIEGO – An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego rescued two men from a capsized personal watercraft near the Mexican border Sunday morning.
The Joint Harbor Operation Center received a distress call via 911 from the two men at 11:40 p.m., Saturday, who stated that they were approximately two miles offshore near the border.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to assist the men.
The aircrew located the people in distress just south of the border at 1:15 a.m., deployed a rescue swimmer and hoisted them into the helicopter.
The men, both Mexican nationals, were transported safely to Sector San Diego. U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel met them there for customs screening.
