Coast Guard rescues 2 from grounded boat

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard rescued two people after their boat ran aground in East Bay, Texas, early this morning.

A watchstander from Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call just after midnight from the wife of one of the boaters. She reported that her husband and his two friends were late and his truck was still at the Oak Island boat ramp. Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to search for the missing boaters.

The helicopter crew located the boat at 1:15 a.m. grounded on a sand bar at the entrance to Double Bayou, 1000 yards from the Oak Island boat ramp. When they learned that their boat would not be towed off until morning, two men requested to be hoisted and brought to shore. The owner decided to remain with his boat.
