Coast Guard rescues 2 from downed aircraft

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two people, William Evans and Brandon Lefort, from atop a levee approximately 3 miles northeast of Chalmette, La., Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, when the Cessna they were aboard was forced to make an emergency landing.

A Coast Guard HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew on a training mission received a call from New Orleans Air Traffic Control at 11:33 a.m. reporting a Cessna airplane with two people aboard had experienced engine trouble and made an emergency landing.

The HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew arrived on scene, rescued the two pilots and transported them to Lakefront Airport.

Neither of the rescued pilots were injured.
