Coast Guard rescues 2 from capsized boat near Bay Point

25 FreeportSAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard rescued two men from a capsized vessel near Bay Point Saturday morning.

At 4:49 a.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Command Center received a report of a capsized vessel with two men in the water. One of the men wore a life jacket, while the other one clung to a floating duck decoy.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Vallejo responded and retrieved the two uninjured men from the water. They were transported safely to McAvoy Marina where emergency services were standing by.

“We advise everyone to wear a life jacket at all times in any weather condition, because you never know what might happen,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jessica Achterberg.

Boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Rio Vista, Pittsburg Fire Department and Contra Costa Office of the Sheriff also responded.
