Coast Guard rescues 2 from 30-foot sailboat

MOBILE, Ala. — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two men from a 30-foot adrift sailboat approximately 12 miles south of St. George Island, Fla., Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Ala., received a call at approximately 8 a.m., from the father of one of the men stating that the sailboat was adrift in rough weather. Devin Morales and Michael Stupp, both from Destin, Fla., where traveling west out of Yankeetown, Fla., where they encountered rough weather.

The Coast Guard launched an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from the Aviation Training Center, Mobile and an HH-60 Jayhawk and crew from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., to assist.

The crew Ocean Sentry spotted the two men at approximately 9:30 a.m., and directed the Jayhawk crew to their position where they were hoisted into the helicopter at approximately 10:30 a.m., and taken to Apalachicola Airport.
