Coast Guard rescues 2 fishermen on Sea Star II

BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. – The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen aboard a 65-foot fishing boat that was taking on water two miles off Beach Haven, N.J, Wednesday.

The Coast Guard received a call at about 9 p.m. from a crewmember aboard the Sea Star II who reported they were taking on water and needed assistance.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., diverted from a training mission, arrived on scene and lowered a dewatering pump to the fishing boat crew.

A smallboat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, N.J., arrived on scene and boarded the boat to assess the situation.

The dewatering pump kept the flooding under control, and the smallboat crew from Station Barnegat Light escorted the Sea Star II to Lighthouse Marina in Barnegat Light where the boat was moored to a pier.
