JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Coast Guard crews rescued two boaters Sunday after their 51-foot sailing vessel became disabled 1-mile south of St. John’s River Inlet.
The vessel is being monitored by Coast Guard Pollution Investigators due to its proximity to Atlantic Beach.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville watchstanders were notified at 6:30 a.m. by the boaters of the sailing vessel “Spirit of Liberty” after becoming disabled and losing power. Watchstanders launched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Mayport who arrived on scene recovering the passengers. Due to weather, the vessel was unable to be put in tow.
There were no reported injuries.
