Coast Guard Rescues 2 After Vessel Grounding

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued two people from a grounded, 28-foot sailing vessel today south of Tyndall Air Force Base.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call for assistance from the sailing vessel Tipsy Gypsy at 9:47 p.m., yesterday reporting their vessel was aground near the beach south of Tyndall Air Force Base, with one 58-year-old male and a 58-year-old female aboard.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Rescue Helicopter crew to assist the passengers of the grounded vessel. The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted both people aboard and transported them to Panama City-Bay County International Airport where they were released to Emergency Medical Services personnel.
