5th Coast Guard District News
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard rescued two men Thursday after their 16-foot boat capsized in the Little Creek Basin near Virginia Beach.

Navy personnel spotted a capsized boat with two people in the water and called Coast Guard Station Little Creek watchstanders at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Station Little Creek personnel notified Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders and dispatched a crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from Station Little Creek to assist.

Once on scene, the RB-S crew rescued two people from the water and took them to the station.

“The people were in the water trying to right their boat when we arrived on scene,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan Storino, a coxswain from Station Little Creek. “The wind was carrying the boat further into the basin and headed toward the rocks. Due to the dangerous conditions, we decided to pick them up and take them to shore.”

There were no reports of injuries.

Station Little Creek personnel got back underway aboard their 45-foot Response Boat – Medium to retrieve the boat.
