Coast Guard rescues 14 people in continued Baton Rouge flooding response

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued an additional 14 people and assisted other agencies in rescuing another one in distress due to flooding in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, area Wednesday.

Coast Guard crews, under the coordination of Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, are operating in support of the state of Louisiana, the Governor’s office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Louisiana National Guard.

Coast Guard crews to date have rescued a total of 243 people, assisted a total of 3,008 people in distress and rescued 71 pets.

Residents of Louisiana parishes affected by the floods are encouraged by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to complete an application for disaster assistance now, even if their parish has not yet been federally declared for individual assistance.
