Coast Guard Rescues 1 From Overturned Boat, 2nd Man Missing

TOLEDO, Ohio – Coast Guard Station Toledo and Air Station Detroit responded to a distress signal a mile off shore of Lake Erie near Monroe County Friday night.

One man was rescued and another man is missing after their boat capsized following a 13-hour search.

At 8:15 p.m., Friday, Coast Guard Station Toledo received a distress call from capsized vessel Real Life.

A 25-foot rescue boat found a life jacket and a shoe when they arrived on scene.

At 8:48 p.m. the rescue boat located and recovered Devon J. Boik. He was tired but conscious, and told the crew there was another person with him.

The response boat returned Boik to Bolles Harbor in Monroe County and transferred him to Emergency Medical Services. The rescue boat returned to assist an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter, from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit, and a 41-foot utility boat from Station Toledo, and a local rescue boat in the search for the second person, Craig Zentgraff.

Multiple search patterns were conducted with negative results. The search was suspended at 9:15 p.m.

The capsized boat was towed to Bolles Harbor.
