Coast Guard rescue crews search for missing kayaker

HONOLULU – Rescue personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard are assisting local rescue crews in the search for a kayaker missing in Kapa’a Beach Park since Saturday evening.

The kayaker, Miguel Serrino, 26, from the Big Island, was last seen wearing multi-colored shorts and a dark blue T-shirt.

The Coast Guard currently has an HH-65 rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point searching and also plans to use a C-130 search plane aircrew to search for Serrino.

Hawaii County Fire Department personnel contacted the Coast Guard’s Sector Honolulu command center shortly after 8:30 a.m. Sunday to request assistance with the search.

The Civil Air Patrol is also assisting with search efforts.
