BOSTON — Coast Guard rescue crews towed a stranded fishing vessel approximately 50 miles east of Cape Ann to Gloucester, Mass., Saturday at 11 a.m.
Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Boston received a distress call from the pleasure craft Lionheart at 6 a.m., Friday. Crewmembers on Lionheart stated that the pleasure craft was adrift with two persons aboard approximately 50 miles east of Cape Ann, Mass.
The Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead was launched to tow the vessel back to Gloucester, Mass., where it transferred the tow to a crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester which safely brought the vessel to the pier.
“They were stranded and needed our assistance,” said Lt. Garrett Meyer, a Sector Boston command duty officer. “We safely got them to Gloucester this afternoon.
The Coast Guard strategically places cutters and their crews in areas where they can quickly respond to mariners in trouble. A quick response to at-sea emergencies saves property and the lives of local mariners.
