Coast Guard Repatriates 32 Cuban Migrants

MIAMI РThe crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sawfish repatriated 32 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Caba̱as, Cuba today at 10 a.m.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine DASH-8 aircraft crew spotted a go-fast vessel traveling north at a high rate of speed 55 miles south of Marathon, Fla., Feb. 23. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous also located and tracked the vessel while boat crews from Coast Guard Station Key West, Fla., and CBP Air and Marine closed in on the go-fast.

The two boat crews stopped the go-fast 22 miles south of Big Pine Key, Fla., where the crew of the Vigorous embarked all 32 Cuban migrants. The two suspected smugglers were also detained and transferred to CBP agents for possible prosecution.

Once on board Coast Guard cutters, all migrants receive food, water and any necessary medical treatment.

The Vigorous is a 210-foot medium-endurance cutter homeported in Cape May, N.J.

The Sawfish is an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West, Fla.
