Coast Guard Repatriates 29 Dominican Migrants To La Romana

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico РThe crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Cushing repatriated 29 Dominican migrants today to La Romana, Dominican Republic, following an at-sea interdiction by the Coast Guard authorities Sunday.The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane located and interdicted the 20-foot-wooden yola at 5 p.m. Sunday traveling illegally to Puerto Rico, approximately 32 nautical miles northeast of Cabo Enga̱o, Dominican Republic. The crew of the Harriet Lane safely embarked the migrants and destroyed the migrant yola as a hazard to navigation.

The Harriet Lane rendezvoused with cutter Cushing at approximately 5:45 a.m. Monday and transferred the 20 male and nine female migrants to the Cushing for repatriation to La Romana. The repatriation was completed at approximately 10 a.m. today when custody of the migrants was transferred to Dominican Republic navy authorities in La Romana.

Coast Guard Cutter Cushing is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane is a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter homeported in Portsmouth, Va.
