MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutters Kodiak Island and Ocracoke repatriated a total of 18 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Thursday and Saturday.
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., HC-130 aircraft crew located a rustic vessel about 50 miles south of Key West, Fla., Tuesday. The Coast Guard Cutter Zephyr was diverted, and once on scene, safely embarked five Cuban migrants.
Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke’s crew interdicted a 14-foot rustic vessel with seven Cuban migrants aboard approximately half a mile southeast of Muerto Cay, Bahamas, Monday.
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket located a rustic vessel with seven Cuban migrants aboard approximately 26 miles north of Matanzas, Cuba, Sept. 4. The crew safely embarked the seven Cuban migrants.
One of the Cuban migrants previously had immigration status in the United States and was brought ashore to Customs and Border Protection officials in Key West.
Once aboard Coast Guard cutters, migrants are provided food, water, shelter and basic medical care.
