Coast Guard repatriates 17 Cuban migrants, 61 Haitian migrants

7th Coast Guard District NewsMIAMI — The Coast Guard repatriated 17 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, and 61 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitien, Haiti, during the past week.

The migrants were interdicted at sea in two separate cases since Jan. 12, 2012.

The Coast Guard Cutter Reliance repatriated 61 Haitian migrants on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard Cutter Sitkinak repatriated 17 Cuban migrants on Tuesday.

Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants are provided with food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.

The Cutter Reliance is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Kittery, Maine.

The Cutter Sitkinak is a 110-foot patrol boat home ported in Miami.
