NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Coast Guard enforces federal red snapper fishery laws within U.S. federal waters.

Federal red snapper fishing season is closed within federal waters until June 1, 2014 in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 50 CFR 622.34(b).

The U.S. Coast Guard reminds fishermen that possession of reef fish during a closed season is in violation of 50 CFR 622.13(n). For-hire vessels are also reminded that vessels with a federal charter/Headboat permit may not harvest red snapper in state waters during periods when a federal fishery is closed. The federal waters extend beyond three nautical miles offshore Louisiana.
