The Times Herald of Port Huron, MI is reporting this morning that:
An administrative investigation into the June search for a missing Lake Huron kayaker has found Coast Guard personnel acted appropriately.
However, the search for kayaker – who was found drowned the morning after his disappearance – has caused the Coast Guard to review its search-and-rescue procedures and add a recommendation search coordinators contact local authorities early in the search process. The same recommendation should be applied to other emergencies on the water, Coast Guard officials said.
The investigation was launched after local officials criticized the Coast Guard for not calling the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, which has a marine division, for help in the search.
