New Orleans – Rear Admiral Kevin Cook, commander, Coast Guard Eighth District, announced the decision to convene a court-martial based upon the recommendation from an Article 32 Investigation, held on Sept. 6, to review evidence related to charges of sexual assault and possession of child pornography made against Petty Officer Second Class Christopher Bush.

The court martial is scheduled for February 2014.

The Article 32 was held to review the charges and the evidence, and make a recommendation on how to proceed, similar to how a civilian grand jury operates. No verdict or sentencing was handed down, just a recommendation. The charges reviewed fall under Article 120 – rape and sexual assault and Article 134 – possession of child pornography of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

While awaiting court-martial, Petty Officer Bush has been in pre-trial confinement since early June 2013 at the Naval Brig in Chesapeake, Va. He was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Wyaconda, a 75-foot river tender homeported in Dubuque, Iowa, since July 2012.
