WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard completed the reestablishment of 12 navigational aids Thursday in Bogue Inlet, North Carolina, near Emerald Isle and Swansboro.
Crews from Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Fort Macon replaced the navigational aids after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed dredging and depth surveys. The aids now mark safe water.
Coast Guard Sector North Carolina personnel originally determined that due to heavy shoaling, 12 navigational aids no longer safely marked the channel in Bogue Inlet. The aids were removed on May 16.
The aids to navigation listed below now accurately mark the waterway:
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 6A (LLNR 29525)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 7 (LLNR 29530)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 8 (LLNR 29535)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 10 (LLNR 29540)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 11 (LLNR 29550)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 12 (LLNR 29555)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 13 (LLNR 29557)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 14 (LLNR 29559)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 15 (LLNR 29560)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy Lighted Buoy 16 (LLNR 29563)
- Bogue Inlet Buoy 17 (LLNR 29565)
- Swansboro Coast Guard Channel Junction Buoy CG (LLNR 29605)
“The Coast Guard is committed to the safety of the boating public,” said Lt. Eunice A. James, chief of waterways management at Sector North Carolina. “The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Coast Guard, and state and local agencies worked together to reestablish a safe channel for our local mariners.”
