Coast Guard Recovers Satellite Rig Worker

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The crew of a Coast Guard HH-65C rescue helicopter from Air Station Corpus Christi recovered the body of a Wood Group Production Services employee sixty miles South of Corpus Christi at approximately 10:45 a.m. on January 19, 2008.

The Coast Guard received the report from a Bell helicopter pilot who saw the man in the water twenty miles offshore.

It was reported that the man was working on a platform off the North Padre 969 Satellite Rig when a coworker saw him fall in the water some time before 9:38 a.m. The coworker tried to help the man by throwing him a life ring.

The man was taken to Corpus Christi Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was reported to have no vitals.

The weather on scene was 35 knot winds, 8 foot seas, and overcast clouds at 1,200 feet.
