PORTLAND, Maine – The Coast Guard working with other local authorities recovered a person in the water off Old Orchard Beach Sunday at 10 a.m.
Sector Northern New England received a report of a person in the water from Old Orchard Beach Police at around 9:30 a.m. A rescue boat from Station South Portland and a Coast Guard Auxiliary aircraft were both dispatched to the area about 50 yards off Old Orchard Beach.
The victim was unresponsive to CPR and was taken to Pine Point Marina and transferred to Maine Medical.
Agencies involved in this recovery were Maine Marine Patrol, Old Orchard Police and Fire Departments and the Scarborough Fire Department.
“Responses such as today’s help strengthen the cooperation between federal, state and local agencies,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Joe Tallent, senior response coordinator. “Sector Northern New England has responded to over 1250 search and rescue cases over the past two years. Roughly 10 percent of them involved distressed people in the water,” Tallent said.
