Coast Guard recovers body of woman who fell from Galveston Ferry

America's Heartland Coast Guard NewsHOUSTON — A Coast Guard helicopter crew located the body of a woman who fell from a Galveston Ferry between Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island Monday evening.

The Galveston Ferry Dispatch contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston Galveston at 9:07 p.m. reporting a 42-year-old female had fallen off the ferry.

Coast Guard watchstanders launched crews aboard a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from Coast Guard Station Galveston and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Houston to search for the woman.

The helicopter crew located the woman floating in the water, 1,500 feet west of were she fell off the ferry, and directed the boat crew to her location.

The boat crew recovered the woman and performed CPR en route to the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston were she was pronounced deceased by local emergency medical personnel.

“On behalf of everyone involved our heartfelt condolences go out to the lady’s family and friends,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class John Schroeder, a duty watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston.
