Coast Guard reception honors Umpqua Lighthouse tradition in Winchester Bay, Ore.

Pacific Northwest Coast Guard NewsWINCHESTER BAY, Ore. — The Coast Guard hosted a reception at the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay, July 18, 2012, to honor the continued tradition of keeping the lighthouse going since the Coast Guard officially transferred responsibility of its maintenance and operation to Douglas County, Ore., Apr. 12, 2012.

During the reception, city, county, and state officials and volunteers as well as several Coast Guard senior leadership officials, spoke formally about the rich history and continued tradition of keeping the lighthouse going.

Rear Adm. Keith A. Taylor expressed his gratitude for the many hardworking people who have continued to keep the Umpqua River Lighthouse alive.
