Coast Guard re-opens section of Boston HarborWalk

BOSTON – The Coast Guard’s Integrated Support Command in Boston’s North End will re-open a section of the Boston Harbor board walk that was closed for security reasons following Sept. 11, 2001.

The walk extends from the Boston Harbor Hotel through the downtown wharves to Puopolo Park on Commercial St.

The re-opening of the section, adjacent to the ISC, is a collaboration between the base commanding officer, Capt. Scott Keene and Vivien Li of the Boston Harbor Association. The section bordering the Coast Guard base will be available for public use during daylight hours from April 1, 2008, through Nov. 1, 2008.

“As members of the community, our goal is to strike a balance between recreation and security,” said Keene. “We appreciate the Boston Harbor Association’s effort to help us achieve that.”
