SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard has ramped up safety and security patrols for this year’s San Francisco Fleet Week to ensure the events are safe and fun.
Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Teams from San Francisco, Los Angeles/Long Beach and Seattle, in addition to Maritime Security Response Team West, based in San Diego, have deployed alongside Bay Area based Coast Guard and partner agency crews to ensure the safety of participants and spectators from the water and shore.
Other Coast Guard personnel participating in this year’s fleet week events are also providing safety and security coverage, to include crews from Coast Guard cutters Stratton, George Cobb, Pike, Tern, Sockeye, Hawksbill and Dorado; stations San Francisco, Rio Vista, Vallejo, Lake Tahoe, Golden Gate and Monterey; and air stations San Francisco and Sacramento.
Coast Guard MSST K-9 teams and partner agencies are conducting shore side and vessel security sweeps and patrols while Coast Guard buoys tenders, patrol boats and small boat station crews are ensuring people are staying safe on the water by escorting other military ships, establishing safety zones for the air shows throughout the weekend and by being ready to respond to any search and rescue events that arise.
Coast Guard and partner agencies are scheduled to enforce a safety zone from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to Sunday during the Navy Blue Angels air show.
